There will be an application update of the NCLOR to version 6.1 on 6/27/13. The NCLOR will be unavailable starting 7:00 pm Thursday, June 27th until 7:00 pm Friday, June 28th. The NCLOR staff apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this scheduled downtime may cause.

The NCLOR application update will begin March 28th at 6:00 pm and will be unavailable until 6:00 pm and March 29th. Users will not be able to access the NCLOR during this down time. We will be upgrading our current 5.2 production instance to version 6.0. The NCLOR staff apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.

In advance of the upcoming Mars Science Laboratory landing on August 5, the NCLOR Staff has updated the NASA open educational resources. The majority of the new resources have information about the Mars rover missions.
NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory mission is the most ambitious, complex mission in the history of robotic space exploration. On August 5, the mission will set down a large, mobile laboratory – the dune buggy-sized Curiosity rover – using a new form of precision landing technology that makes many of Mars’ most intriguing regions viable destinations for the first time.
The types of NASA resources included in this update are: images, videos, PDF documents, and interactive resources.

The NCCCS courses that could be enhanced by using these resources are: AST111, ATR281, ATR215, EGR230, EGR252, HIS132, PHY101, and RCT110.
To access the NASA series you can:
- log into the NCLOR as a guest or through your institution’s learning management system
- navigate to the Browse by Resource Series area
- click on the NASA series.
The Multicellular Animals, Multicellular Plants, and Single Cell Organisms V-Scope Explorer™ slide sets have been updated to include references to the new activity guide. A link to this guide has been included in on every slide in the set. V-Scope Explorer™ Microscope is a is a simulated experience of using a real microscope.
This simulation adds a new dimension to your lab experience and can supplement textbook and classroom sessions by learning through this virtual lab.
The Multicellular Plants, Multicellular Animals, and Single Cell Organisms slide sets join the Anatomy and Physiology slides which are already available in the NCLOR.
The V-Scope Explore Series is ONLY available to the North Carolina Community College System faculty.
The NCCCS courses that could be enhanced by using these resources are: BIO090, BIO092, BIO100, BIO110, BIO111, and BIO112.
To access the V-Scope Explorer series you can:
- log into the NCLOR or through your institution’s learning management system
- navigate to the Browse by Resource Series area
- click on the V-Scope Explorer (Virtual Microscope) series.
The NCLOR has been updated to version 5.0 and was available for use as of 5:03 PM this evening. This was a major upgrade so please bear with us while we work out any kinks in the application in the next few days. In the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of the new features now available in 5.0, of which there are many. Thanks for everyone who helped the upgrade and we hope all users enjoy the new functionality.
The NCLOR will be unavailable tomorrow, Nov. 30th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm for the application upgrade to 5.0. NCLOR users will NOT be able to access the application through the main interface or via the learning management systems. The existing links already connected to the NCLOR in online courses will also be unavailable during this upgrade. We apologize for any inconvenience this upgrade may cause.
In preparation of this weeks upgrade, the NCLOR self-paced online tutorials have been updated to show the changes in version 5.0. The new 5.0 tutorials include topics like; NCLOR Orientation, Using NCLOR with LMSs, Searching and Downloading Resources , Contributing Resources, and Resources Management. You can find the new tutorials on the Training Page of the NCLOR portal.
Also available on the training page is the NCLOR 5.0 New Features Tutorial. In this tutorial, you will find information about the new features and interface changes available in the 5.0 version.
