Cambridge University Video Series Added to the NCLOR


cambridge-university-logoToday, seventy-five resources from the University of Cambridge were added to the open educational resources collection within the NCLOR. In this series, you can find out about some of the research, discoveries and innovations that take place at Cambridge University. In particular, a collection of short films in which top researchers reveal some of their latest findings and discuss subjects ranging from energy to disappearing languages, and policing the streets to the future of robotics.

The topics included in this series are:

  • Cambridge Shorts – short films from top researchers at Cambridge
  • Lines of Thought – Discoveries that Changed the World – videos from the Cambridge Library
  • Nano-materials Up Close – images from a electron microscope
  • Under the Microscopevideos that capture glimpses of the natural and man-made world in stunning close-up
  • Engineering – department of engineering based videos at University of Cambridge
  • Law – videos relating to law at the University of Cambridge.

Emerging Technology Resources Added to the NCLOR


Technology is penetrating our lives in various ways, shapes and forms. It can be expected that the flow of tech innovations will continue into the future and create job opportunities for those willing to invest in the skills to master them.

In that effort, the NCLOR staff has compiled a list of available resources that showcases few emerging technologies fields. The NCLOR staff has created a series showcases the resources in the NCLOR about some new and emerging job fields.

Sixteen New S.T.E.M. related Courses from NC School of Science and Mathematics and NC DPI

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in partnership with NC School of Science and Mathematics have developed sixteen open courses in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with over 3,500 resources. These STEM courses, now available in the NCLOR, have been designed to give teachers the materials they need to teach four, full-year courses in the subjects of: Agriscience & Biotechnology, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Energy & Sustainability, and Health & Life Sciences. The courses are organized into topical lessons and those lessons are organized into units based on themes. Many of the units are fully integrated STEM units, meaning they contain real-world challenges and authentic assessments in science, technology, engineering and math.

Notre Dame University OpenCourseWare added to the NCLOR


University of Notre Dame LogoToday, fifty new courses from the Notre Dame University OpenCourseWare were added to the NCLOR. The Notre Dame OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a free and open digital publication of course materials. By offering free, high-quality course materials to the world, OCW strives to overcome the barriers geography, economics, age and language present to the spread of knowledge.

The courses included in this resource series have links to lessons, assignments, exams, and additional resources. There are IMS package links in every course in order to download the complete course at one time. Nation Science Foundation Resources Updated in NCLOR


National Science FoundationThe National Science Foundation collection is now updated in the NCLOR to include 206 new videos. The National Science Foundation, along with its partners at NBC Learn and CBS News, have created a digital collection of science, technology and engineering related videos. The video series included in this collection are:  Chalk Talk, Changing Planet, Chemistry Now, Green Revolution, Innovation Nation, Profiles of Scientists and Engineers, Road to the New Energy Economy, Science Behind the New, Science Nation, Science in Motion, and The Science of the Summer Olympics.

These new video series join The Science of NFL Football, The Science of NHL Hockey, The Science of Speed (NASCAR), and The Science of the Olympic Winter Games series which were previously made available in the NCLOR.

Science of Summer Olympics

Collection Example: Science of the Summer Olympics: The Biomechanics of Usain Bolt, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt holds the World and Olympic records for the fastest time in the 100-meter sprint. Bolt’s stride, strength, and muscle coordination make him not just a biomechanical marvel, but also a gold medal winner at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The subjects included in this collection update are: Agricultural and Natural Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Health Medical Sciences, Information Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
